Seven young people. Faith before a building, money, or title. From cottage prayer meetings to Victory Worship and Conference Centre, Portmore New Testament Church of God stands as a work God planted in Portmore.
Portmore was still young when believers commuting from New Testament Church of God at 65 Walham Park Road began to gather for prayer. The word that started it was simple: instead of gossiping, why don’t you call a prayer meeting?
Those meetings grew in the home of Brother Carlton and Sister Uly Fraser in Edgewater. Neighbors came, and leaders sought guidance for what God was doing. Some labeled them disobedient and unruly. Membership was cancelled and Sunday school reassigned, yet God kept the work.
In the 1977 season, Rev. Guy S. Notice visited. Through prayer and prophecy the church heard: this is My work, and I will establish My church in Portmore. A Waterford gospel tent crusade followed, and the gathering moved from living room to centre, then to a primary school, and at last to a house of worship on the hill.
Cottage prayer meetings begin.
First Sunday night at Port Henderson Community Centre (seven persons).
Sunday morning at Port Henderson Primary. Sunday School grows.
Officially organized with fifteen members.
Faith Temple dedicated.
